Benjamin, a 6-week-old puppy, was adopted by Jennifer Butler in 2013. (or Bennie for short). Butler works at a veterinary clinic where Bennie was brought in for a checkup. Bennie’s owner claimed that she had found him as a stray and had tried to help him but was unable to take him in as her child. Butler then decided to adopt Bennie. Butler found an adoptable dog that resembled Bennie after five joyful years of being together. A different dog was involved when it happened again a few years later. She decided to find out the three puppies’ ancestry as she got to know these Bennie lookalikes.

Butler was reading Facebook when she came across a puppy that resembled Bennie when he was five years old. Butler was initially concerned that Bennie had escaped because the dog was advertised on a nearby pet adoption website. She became calmer, though, when she realized her furry companion was still by her side. “My thoughts began to race as I tried to figure out how he got away from our house and ended up being impounded. After a few intense seconds, I understood that although this dog closely resembled Benjamin, he was not my son. In the hopes that he would be adopted, I posted his post and promised to keep track of any changes to his situation at the shelter, Butler said.

However, Bennie’s twin was having a difficult time locating a loving home. Due to his declining condition and a shortage of shelter space, he was eventually transferred to the list for euthanasia. Butler temporarily housed him since she couldn’t bear to see him put to death. He had heartworm disease, scars, breathing issues, and skin infections. The family, though, developed an affection for him. An adoption quickly took place in what had initially been a foster situation. Butler gave the dog the name Leonard (Lennie for short). Although Lennie and Bennie were initially wary of one another, they soon became close.

Most people find it hard to distinguish between Bennie and Lennie because of their similar appearances. Butler consequently started to question if they were related. She took an Embark DNA test even though she knew it was unlikely. Even if they weren’t related, she reasoned, she would learn more about their genetic makeup and general health. Butler was shocked to learn that Bennie and Lennie are connected and that the test showed they are probably littermates! It’s practically a miracle that they reunited after five years apart. The miracle, however, didn’t stop there. Butler had a similar incident when the canine team was nine years old, a few years later. Butler acquired Lennie from a shelter that published a picture of a female dog who resembled the two brothers. Her friends and family were already tagging her in the post before Butler looked into it.

She decided to foster the third dog, as she had done with Lennie, after finding out that she was in danger of being put down. But she was determined to keep her this time and not give in. She adopted the female dog, now known as Lulu, and assisted in finding her a lifelong home. Lulu enjoyed spending time with her lookalikes in the meantime. Butler used another DNA test before adopting Lulu. Yes, Lulu was most likely Bennie and Lennie’s littermate. Even while it nearly seems absurd to think it’s true, once you see the three of them side by side, it’s difficult to disagree. A few weeks later, it was discovered that she was also an immediate family member or littermate of Butler’s boys. Lulu now has a beautiful home where she can receive all the attention she wants thanks to Butler. Butler keeps in touch with Lulu’s family so that the three canine siblings can periodically be together as a family. It’s as though fate wants to bring them back together!
