Dogs are universally recognized as human’s best companions. Minnow, a rescue dog, is also a turkey’s best friend.
Abbie Hubbard owns Minnow, a 3-year-old sapsali who is also foster “mom” to Blossom, a 10-week-old rescue turkey that arrived at her at 5 weeks old. Blossom was saved from a slaughterhouse after workers accidentally left her behind while transferring turkeys.

Hubbard, informed ABC News, “I brought Blossom home and put her out of her carrier, where Minnow was waiting for her.” “Minnow went straight to Blossom and nudged and kissed her. Blossom appeared at ease with Minnow right away, and after examining Minnow’s plush bed, she went over to her and cuddled close to her.

“Later, I was snuggling with Minnow, and Blossom seemed to realize that I, too, could provide solace. So she came over and cuddled up to me. That was a moment I’ll never forget.”
Minnow’s first fowl companion isn’t Blossom. Hubbard previously had Chickpea as a foster child. Chickpea now lives on a local farm, which is a much better setting than Hubbard’s Northern Virginia apartment.

“Minnow and Blossom are always together, and Blossom still relies on Minnow for comfort,” Hubbard added.
The three of them frequently spend their days together in the backyard or on the couch.

“If something frightens Blossom, she looks to Minnow for guidance,” Hubbard explained. Blossom was unsure about the first few sets of children who came to our home on Halloween night. She’d flee and hide. Blossom stopped hiding and joined in the fun when she observed Minnow welcoming the youngsters and wagging his tail joyfully at the door.”
Minnow and Blossom’s contentment, according to Hubbard, “makes people stop and reflect about all life.”

“Farmed animals, like our companion animals, have feelings. “They may nourish our souls far more than any food,” she continued. “If nothing else, I hope that their meeting with Minnow and Blossom inspires them to give kindness to others.”
Blossom will soon be relocating to the same farm as Chickpea. “I’m sure Minnow will miss Blossom when she moves to the farm, but we’ll console each other and then fill that need with another young soul who needs our aid.”
