Nobody expects to fall in love with their next-door neighbor, but when Lola, a cautious golden retriever, met Loki, sparks flew right away.
Lola and her mother, Amber Monte, moved into their new house outside of Surrey, England, in March. One of the first dogs to welcome the newcomers was Loki, a Staffordshire terrier. Even though his yard was separated from Monte’s by a wooden fence, the two dogs eventually became acquainted.

“We’d never lived with other dogs before, and Lola was ecstatic to see another dog regularly!” The Dodo was informed by Monte. “Whenever Loki was in his garden, he’d always jump up to the fence and look for Lola, because he knew she was always there.”
Lola returned Loki’s advances, but her parents dismissed the relationship as of little more than a tentative friendship. Monte explained, “Lola would always rush up and give him a little hello with some licks.” “All we believed they were doing was getting to know each other and that was it.”

Monte was never concerned that Lola would develop feelings for Loki. After all, he didn’t appear to be her typical type. Monte explained, “She’s normally extremely bashful and hesitant.” “When we go on walks, she is pretty afraid around other large dogs, which is why we were surprised when she took to Loki so well.”
However, Monte noticed a difference in Lola’s behavior approximately a month ago. As if pining for Loki, the dog now preferred to spend her days by the back door begging to get outside.

“The first thing she’ll do when we let her out jumps up to the fence to see if Loki is out,” Monte explained. “If Loki isn’t out yet, she’ll sit by the fence and wait.”
Loki was equally as enamored with Lola, and he even devised a plan to be closer to her.
“We’ve actually come out a few times in the last month to see Loki in our garden and them both playing around together,” Monte said. “Now, when we go to let Lola out in the mornings, Loki is generally waiting for her in our garden!”

Nothing brings the two dogs closer together than those special moments. Lola’s parents, thankfully, are understanding of her boyfriend’s frequent visits.
“When they play, they are so eager to meet each other that there is a lot of jumping about, running, and kissing!” Monte remarked. “When they’re together, they’re inseparable.”
